Admin Feature: Managing Users for IP Range/Email Domain and Single-Sign-On Access

Depending on your licensing agreement, you may be able to manage your users directly in AMBOSS while using IP Range/Email Domain or Single-Sign-On to allow users to activate their institutional license.

This article outlines the process for activating users, assigning Educator roles, and setting up user groups for your institution.

Activating a User

Users must always first activate their license access via IP Range/ Email Domain or Single Sign-On (SSO). Only then can you proceed to the next step.

Note: Normally, we provide each institution with its own landing page with instructions on how users can activate their institutional AMBOSS license. If it exists for your institution, try googling your institution's name and AMBOSS. If in doubt, please contact institutions@amboss.com.

Assigning the Educator Role

Once activated, users are automatically added to your institution with the Learner role. If they require Educator permissions, you must manually update their role to “Educator”.

  1. Navigate to Teaching > Institution Users.

  1. Find the user, click the three dots (⋮) next to their name, and select Edit.

  1. Under the role settings, change the user's role from Learner to Educator.

  1. Click Save. The user now has Educator permissions.

Creating Groups for Visibility and Assignments

If your institution wants to use the Assignments feature, please note that Educators and Learners must always be assigned to the same group (e.g., specialty, class, etc.). This will allow the Educators to work with the right Learners while using Assignments, as well as to later on see their performance.

Note: You may need to check periodically for new users, and adapt their user roles and groups when needed.

Please see our article Educator Feature: Managing Groups to learn more about creating and managing groups.
