You may have noticed a new interface for the AMBOSS platform. We’ve updated the navigation to better reflect how medicine is practiced and learned to help you move seamlessly between studying, clinical care, and teaching.
General questions
Why did AMBOSS change the navigation?
In medicine, your focus can shift throughout the day—from learning, to caring for patients, to teaching others. The updated AMBOSS navigation reflects this by adapting to what you’re doing right now.
The platform is now organized around Learning, Clinical care, and Teaching to help you stay focused on the task at hand. All content and tools are still available—just easier to access.
What exactly changed with the new navigation?
We reorganized AMBOSS around three core areas: Learning, Clinical care, and Teaching. This reflects how medicine actually works and makes it easier to focus on what you’re doing right now.
Were any content or features removed?
No. Nothing was removed. All content and tools are still available—some may simply be organized differently or surfaced more clearly. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, our Support Team is happy to help.
How is this better than the old “modes”?
Previously, you had to switch between “Student” and “Clinician” modes to access certain content. With the new navigation, AMBOSS adapts to your intent instead—learning, clinical care, or teaching.
Why am I asked to choose a goal?
Choosing a goal helps AMBOSS adapt the interface to what you’re doing right now. It’s not permanent—you can switch anytime or have the platform remember your selection.
Can I change my goal later?
Yes. You can switch between Learning, Clinical care, and Teaching at any time. There’s no lock-in.
Does this replace my profile or role settings?
No. Your profile—such as role, specialty, and study goals—still shapes your experience. Together with your current goal, it helps tailor content and recommendations.
Questions for students (Learning)
I’m a student. Should I only use the Learning area?
No. Learning will likely be your main space during exam prep, but as you move into clerkships, you may switch between Learning and Clinical care. AMBOSS supports this progression.
Is AMBOSS Learning still centered around the Qbank and exam prep?
Yes. The Qbank, study objectives, plans, and recommendations remain central in Learning and are now organized more clearly.
Why do I see Clinical Care if I’m still a student?
Many students already work in clinical settings. Clinical Care provides access to clinical reasoning and tools without interfering with your study workflow.
Will clinical content distract me during exam prep?
No. When you’re in Learning, you only see learning-relevant content. Clinical tools are grouped separately.
Do I need to update my profile?
We recommend it. Your study goals and profile information help AMBOSS tailor recommendations more effectively.
How do I use Teaching as a student?
Teaching is designed for educators and institutions. As a student, you don’t need to actively use it—assignments will appear directly in your Learning space.
Questions for clinicians & APPs (Clinical Care)
Why am I seeing Learning as a clinician?
Medicine is a lifelong learning discipline. Learning supports professional development, including CME-relevant content, separate from point-of-care workflows.
Is AMBOSS now a clinical care platform?
AMBOSS has always supported clinical care. The new navigation simply makes this clearer and easier to access.
Where did “Clinician mode” go?
Instead of labeling users, AMBOSS is now organized by intent—Clinical Care, Learning, and Teaching—while your role still shapes what you see.
Where does CME live now?
CME and deeper professional learning content live under Learning, clearly separated from student learning.
Why is search so prominent now?
Search is often the fastest entry point in clinical workflows. The prominent search bar and upcoming AI Mode support quick, evidence-based answers.
Do I need to use Teaching?
No. Teaching is optional and only relevant if you’re involved in instruction or supervision.
