AI Mode Learning FAQs

Because you already use AI, but you shouldn’t have to gamble on it while learning medicine. AI Mode Learning was built to fix what generic AI tools can’t. Bringing AI into the AMBOSS learning experience allows you to understand faster, practice smarter, and see your progress as you go.

• It doesn’t stop at answers — it gets you to the next step: Instead of giving you a response and leaving you hanging, AI Mode Learning turns your question into action: the right AMBOSS content, plus practice and reinforcement so you can actually lock it in.
• It fits what you’re studying and where you are right now: Your learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. AI Mode Learning adapts to your study goals and AMBOSS activity, so you’re not wasting time on random deep dives when you need the high-yield version.
• It gives you a real sense of progress: Activity you are connected to AI Mode Learning (practice, review, reinforcement) happens within AMBOSS, so you can track what you’ve covered, where you’re improving, and what still needs attention.
• It keeps your studying in one flow: No more bouncing between AI tools, notes, Anki, and your study platform. You can ask, understand, and move straight into AMBOSS content without breaking focus.
• It’s built for medical learning — not generic Q&A: AI Mode Learning is designed around how students actually learn: clarifying concepts, telling look-alikes apart, focusing on what matters, and turning confusion into confidence through practice.

AI Mode Learning is different from generic AI tools in a few key ways:

1) Built for medical education (not generic questions): It’s designed for curricula, board-style learning, and clinical reasoning, so the way it explains things and what it emphasizes is aligned with how you’re actually expected to think and be tested in medicine.

2) Turns answers into action: It doesn’t stop at an explanation. AI Mode Learning can connect you directly to the right next step inside AMBOSS—relevant articles, practice questions, Anki cards, and workflows—so you can immediately apply what you learned.

3) Part of your AMBOSS learning journey: This isn’t a separate chat window that forgets everything the moment you close it. AI Mode Learning works inside AMBOSS, and the study actions you take from it count toward your progress, helping you see gaps, track improvement, and know what to do next.

4) Trusted, guideline-based content: Instead of pulling random info from across the web, AI Mode Learning is grounded in AMBOSS clinician-created, expert-reviewed content. So you spend less time wondering “is this even right?” and more time learning.

You can use the AI Mode Learning whenever your primary goal is learning: understanding concepts, reviewing for exams, or building clinical reasoning while studying.

If your main goal is clinical care (you’re on rotations and need guideline-based support for real patient care decisions), AI Mode Clinical Care will support you (find out more here). Yes. AI Mode Learning uses your AMBOSS study goal and basic profile information to tailor what it shows you. So when it recommends practice questions and resources, it prioritizes the ones that match your current study objective (for example: Step 1 vs Step 2, COMLEX Level 1/Level 2, PANCE, or international exams like ENARM).

Yes. AI Mode Learning is an excellent resource to help you prepare for exams efficiently. Use it to focus on what actually gets tested: ask for high-yield takeaways, common traps, and a targeted next-step plan inside AMBOSS. You can also upload a score report or missed questions from other sources and have AI Mode Learning explain what went wrong, and then point you to the most relevant AMBOSS questions, articles, and Anki cards to fill your knowledge gaps and ensure that you won’t miss the same information again.

Yes, you can practice for an oral exam with AI Mode Learning. You can ask it to quiz you in this style, push back with follow-up questions, and explain what you got right or missed, using AMBOSS-grounded medical knowledge. It’s not a dedicated “oral exam mode,” but it works well for practice.

Yes. AI Mode Learning is fully integrated into AMBOSS. You can access it from Learning → AI Mode Learning (and in some places directly from the Learning interface/search). What makes it feel “integrated” is that it’s built on AMBOSS content: when you ask a question, it doesn’t just give you an explanation, it links you straight to existing AMBOSS resources like articles, practice questions, and Anki cards, so you can take the next best step without leaving the platform. And when you use the recommended resources, your activity counts toward your AMBOSS learning progress.

Yes. Learner Chat is currently included in your AMBOSS membership as part of our testing phase. Because this feature is still in testing mode, we’re learning from how students use it and continue to make improvements. Long-term packaging and pricing are not yet final, so access may change in the future. If anything changes down the road, we’ll make it clear and give you a heads-up.

AI Mode Learning gets its information directly from AMBOSS content (articles, illustrations, questions, etc.). That means your answers are grounded in trusted AMBOSS medical content which is created and reviewed by clinicians—the same articles, explanations, and learning resources you already use on the platform (not random open-web sources). When you ask a question, AI Mode for Learning “reads” what you’re asking (even in different languages), can interpret what you upload, and then pulls the most relevant AMBOSS content to give you a clear explanation— including links to the exact AMBOSS resources you can use next.

Yes, you can chat in multiple languages. The interface will default to the language you’ve selected in your AMBOSS profile, and you can ask questions in the language you’re most comfortable with. You can chat in any language, but at the moment, the AMBOSS content it pulls (articles, questions, etc.) is currently English-only, so the resources you open will be in English.

Yes, you can upload files (lecture slides, class notes, screenshots, reports, etc.) to AI Mode for Learning. Pasting a URL/link is not currently supported (it won’t automatically read the page).

Uploads supported:

• Documents: PDF, DOCX, TXT (lecture notes, papers, slides, etc.)
• Images: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WEBP (screenshots, diagrams, results, question screenshots)

AI Mode Learning is available on the web version of AMBOSS. You’ll find it under “AI Mode” in the Learning navigation tab. It is not natively integrated into the AMBOSS mobile apps yet (that’s on our roadmap), but you can still use it on your phone via mobile web — just open your browser and go to next.amboss.com/us/chat.

AI Mode Learning is the new, upgraded chat experience inside AMBOSS. Compared to AMBOSS GPT, it’s more deeply integrated with the platform, so it can do more than “answer questions.” It helps you turn questions into real study steps inside AMBOSS (like relevant questions, articles, and Anki cards) and keeps your learning connected to your goals and progress. Plus, AI Mode Learning can read uploaded documents and integrate these into its output and suggested next steps.

If you’ve used AMBOSS GPT before, think of AI Mode for Learning as the more powerful, more AMBOSS-native version built for how you actually study. AI Mode Learning can “think in steps”, so it can pull information from AMBOSS in multiple passes until it finds what you actually need. AMBOSS GPT was more like a single search + answer (and if that one search missed, it could fall short). That multi-step approach is a big reason AI Mode Learning feels more helpful and more reliable for real studying.

AMBOSS AI Mode Learning is in no way intended to serve as a diagnostic or treatment tool, to provide certainty with respect to a diagnosis, to recommend a particular product or therapy, or to otherwise substitute for the clinical judgment of a qualified healthcare professional. AI can make mistakes. You must verify all information provided. To protect patient privacy, never provide personal patient information.

We follow strict privacy and security standards, including EU data processing requirements.

No. Your data isn’t used to train the AI. AI Mode Learning works by sending your request to large language models through secure APIs, and the information you share isn’t used to train those models.

Anything you share in AI Mode Learning is handled under strict security standards and is encrypted in transit and at rest (on the way in and while stored).

AI Mode Learning responses are AI-generated. Because copyright rules for AI output are still evolving, AMBOSS doesn’t claim ownership of what the chat generates. You’re free to use the output for your personal studying and internal educational use. If you’re planning to publish or sell AI-generated material, it’s best to treat it cautiously, since it may not be protected like fully original, human-created work.
