COMLEX LEVEL 1 Self-Assessment Week

The AMBOSS COMLEX Level 1 Self-Assessment will be offered for the first time in 2026. It allows DO medical students to check their readiness for the COMLEX Level 1 exam and better understand their current level of preparation.

You can take the Self-Assessment for free between February 25 and March 3, 2026. ⭐Sign up via the registration form by February 22, 2026.

The Self-Assessment consists of 160 exam-style questions, delivered in four timed blocks, and is designed to reflect the structure, content distribution, and scoring approach of the actual COMLEX Level 1 exam.

After you complete all four blocks, you’ll receive a personalized score report and targeted study recommendations, which you can use to identify strengths, address knowledge gaps, and plan your next steps in COMLEX Level 1 preparation.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Starting the AMBOSS COMLEX Level 1 Self-Assessment

Where can I sign up for the AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment?

You can sign up for AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment week at this link. You will then receive an email from us once the Self-Assessment is live.

I don’t have an AMBOSS account. Can I still participate in the COMLEX Level 1 Self-Assessment?

Yes! You’ll just need to create a free account here. It only takes a few minutes to verify your email address and complete your profile. From February 25th to March 3rd, you will be granted free access to AMBOSS, so you can complete your Self-Assessment and explore AMBOSS resources.

Important: When you sign up for the Self-Assessment, make sure you use the same email address you used for your AMBOSS account, so your Self-Assessment access is set up correctly.

Is it free to join the AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment Week?

From February 25th to March 3, 2026, AMBOSS’s COMLEX Level 1 assessment will be free for you to take. When you sign up, you’ll get free access to AMBOSS throughout that week and for an additional few days after so that you can review your score report and recommended learning resources.

When does the AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment Week start and end?

AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment week goes from February 25, 2026, to March 3, 2026. You will receive an email on February 25 that will prompt you to begin the exam.

The scoring of this exam replicates that of the actual Level 1 exam and is scaled according to the performance of your peers who take the assessment with you. For this reason, it will not be possible to take the Self-Assessment after March 3 at 11:59 pm PST.

Can I take the COMLEX Self-Assessment even if I don’t have an exam date yet?

Yes! The Level 1 Self-Assessment is a great tool, no matter what stage of prep you’re at. Your score report will help you measure how ready you are and give you targeted resources you can use to fill your knowledge gaps. This is super helpful whether you’re testing next week or not for a long time.

I’m busy during COMLEX Self-Assessment Week. Can I take it another time?

The Self-Assessment can only be taken between February 25th, 2026, and March 3rd, 2026. You don’t need to do it all at once – you can choose the times that fit your schedule best within that week. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to take the Self-Assessment outside of that timeframe. This is because we have set up the scoring of this exam in the same way the real exam is scored – scaled according to the performance of your peers who take the assessment with you.

What is included in the AMBOSS COMLEX Level 1 Self-Assessment?

The AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment includes 160 exam-style questions modeled on COMLEX® Level 1, designed to reflect the structure, reasoning, and clinical focus of the exam. You’ll work through four timed blocks of 40 questions, just like you will in the real exam.

The assessment can be completed at your own pace, at any time in the 7-day window (February 25 to March 3).

You’ll have unlimited free access to AMBOSS during this week, as well as for a few days after it, so that you can review your score report.

Is the relative distribution of topics the same as in the actual Level 1 exam?

Yes, our Self-Assessment reflects the relative distribution of topics on the actual COMLEX exam. Following the NBOME® announcement that communication and interpersonal skills questions would now feature more prominently on the exam, the Level 1 Self-Assessment will reflect that.

How predictive is my Self-Assessment score relative to my actual Level 1 exam score?

Just like the real Level 1 exam, the AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment places students on a scale relative to their peers who are taking the assessment at the same time. Our questions are tested and have been scrutinized by students in prior years, and we’re confident our questions are high-quality and representative of what you will see on the actual exam. Our score report also reflects the relative distribution of topics on the actual COMLEX exam.

Taking the Assessment

I already signed up. How do I find and start the AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment?

You will receive an email from us on February 25th with a link to access and begin the Self-Assessment. Please ensure you sign up by February 22nd.

Do I have to complete the entire Self-Assessment/all four blocks in one sitting?

We recommend that you complete the exam in one sitting, since this is the best way to simulate the actual exam and build your stamina. That said, we understand you have a busy schedule! For that reason, there’s an option to split the Self-Assessment up into chunks and take each block at any point throughout the week.

When can I review my answers?

The Self-Assessment exam is made up of four blocks, each including 40-questions. After answering all 40 questions in a block, you will have the option to review the completed block’s correct answers and explanations or to continue with the rest of the exam.

You will also be able to go back and see your completed blocks and review your answers at any time during the Self-Assessment week.

The completed Self-Assessment will be available for you to review until March 9th, 2025, at 23:59 PST.

Can I take the Self-Assessment on a mobile device?

The Self-Assessment is not available on the mobile apps. Although it is possible to take it on the web browser of your mobile device, we strongly recommend taking it on your desktop device.

Score report & study recommendations

What is included in the Self-Assessment score report?

When will I get my score report?

You must complete all four blocks of the Self-Assessment by March 3 at 11:59 PM PST to receive your score report. The report will be delivered via email within one week after March 3, 2026.

Can I access my completed Self-Assessment and Score Report even after 1 Self-Assessment Week is over?

Please note: once the Self-Assessment is submitted, you won’t be able to change any of your answers. You will also be able to go to the Analysis section of the platform for a general overview of your strengths and weaknesses, plus a list of recommendations.

How long will I have free AMBOSS access to explore my study recommendations?
