I think this would be a good thread to help 1st / 2nd year medical students get a hang of the rigors of medical school. Leave your top advice (try not to do more than 3)!

1.) Don't compare yourself to others!
2.) Learn from questions and do not focus on your percent correct! Focus on the learning!
Hey!
I know I'm late to respond and you are probably already very-much adjusted into your medical program! I am currently a 4th year medical student, and would like to share some tips on how to make the most of your first year:
1. It's your chance to explore your options! At this point, no one expects you to know what specialty you want to get into. You should shadow, attend various seminars and events. Maybe you'll find an awesome mentor this way. :)
2. Your classmates may become very good friends with you! You should enjoy the time you have and learn from one another. Maybe explore the new (if you moved for medical school) area and try different restaurants?
3. Self-care is important. First-year won't feel as stressful as second-year or third-year, but your meal prepping habits, fitness will all carry over into those next years too. Maybe you'll even bond with residents better talking about TV shows, your pets, or any sports you're into.
4. Yes, studying is important. But don't overdo it! Set goals for yourself and work on achieving them. Honestly, you could study into the next dimension if you don't set limits for yourself. Yes, Step 1 is probably already in your mind, but you'll get a better understanding with all the material if you have a plan and stick to the plan. Boards and Beyond, Sketchy Micro/Pharm, and Pathoma also very helpful in addition to regular practice questions once you have a good foundation of a topic (i.e. Cardiology Pathology, or Respiratory Pharm)
I hope these tips help! Good luck!
